Vice Canchellor's introduction
Gentle Academicians, Dear friends,
as the most alert among you will remember, here usually comes an introductive note by our Academy Chancellor Andrea "Shand" Cozzolino. Lately anyway, because of some problems concerning his Earthen counterpart, Andrea had to give up - we hope just temporarily - to the task, because of the most trivial reason: lack of time. I might seem a strang thing, but even write a few lines takes time, and time does not ever seem enough.
So here I am, introducing this new issue of our newsletter (the third one), an absolutely irregular bulletin (according with the best traditions of the planet we are living on), where it is by now a habit to describe our just completed projects or the still in progress ones. It might seem a trivial purpose, but it fulfills a real need and supports a real hope.
The need is to keep all of you - especially the new hearers, who lately joined us - informed about what the Academy lately accomplished and about its projects for the current year, which include: a new stories collection (which, this time, we hope, will have a colored cover); our contribution to the Races Senatus' fanzine (very more meaningful than the latter one); the usual articles collection for "Inside Star Trek" ... and something is also about to come from the linguistical side, as the Commission Head Preside Silvana "T'Var" Varlec tells us ...
The hope is all on you, on your will to participate and on your initiative. Too often, in your submission forms, we read sentences like "I do not know if I will be able to do anything for the Academy" or "I would like to know about your activities, but ..." We are keeping you informed about what we are doing, because we hope that somebody will meet here an old dream of his/her, a project, an idea. And that, meeting it, he/she wants to use our help to carry it on. Go ahead, people, here is the fun, not just reading other people's work. Anybody as an idea? Very well, amaze us, bury us under papers!!!

Works in progress
Now we will talk about what we are willing to accomplish in the next season.
Our contribution to the Races fanzine, 1999
Trustee: Vice-Chancellor Marco ‘Sabich’ Vittorini
Synopsis: A collection of Vulcan materials to be included in yearly fanzine edited by the Races Senatus, according to the guidelines given by Antonio Falcolini.
Status: In progress, meeting its schedule.
Expire date: the end of June ’99, to be presented at STICCon ’99.
The Races Senatus fanzine, this year, will be divided in two sections: one containing any original work, like stories, essays, arts, etc. produced by each race; one of encyclopedic nature, to which every RS member contributed with a short description of its race and culture, all meaningful characters' profiles and a list, with a short summary, of the ST episodes, which are considered interesting for the race and culture definition.
So far, we collected, for the first section:
"The Kahs-wan", a short story by Silvana "T'Var" Varlec.
"Final thoughts", poetry by Ada Jane "V'Muse" Ward.
For the second section:
"The planet and her inhabitants" about Vulcan and Vulcan culture, made of several contribution by: Marco "Sabich" Vittorini, Anna "T'Sun" Perotti, Maria "T'Mara" Naush, Carlo "Skor" Mascellani and Stefania "Th'Eff" Basile.
"Vulcans in Star Trek", edited by Marco "Sabich" Vittorini e Anna "T'Sun" Perotti
"Essential filmography", Marco "Sabich" Vittorini e Anna "T'Sun" Perotti
"La figlia delle stelle": Vulcan Anthology, 1999
Trustee: Vice-Chancellor Marco ‘Sabich’ Vittorini
Synopsis: A yearly S.T.I.C. fanzine edited by the Academy, sold for charity. It includes Vulcan stories and arts.
Status: In progress, meeting its schedule.
Expire date: the of July ’99, to be presented at STICCon ’99.
It is almost done. About to go on with composition.
It will include the following stories:
"La figlia delle stelle" (Daughter of Stars), a novelette by our good Claudia "T'Klau" Caloi.
"Orfeo", by Macedon.
"La visionaria" (The Visioner), a story set before the Reform by the -till now- only one Canadian Academy member: Ada Jane "V'Muse" Ward.
"Una diversa prospettiva" (A Different Perspective), by Beth Meenaghan.
"Dotazione d'ordinanza" (Standard Issue), by Anna "T'Sun" Perotti.
RS articles, 1999
Trustee: Chancellor Andrea ‘Shand’ Cozzolino
Synopsis: 6 articles to be presented at the Races Senatus meeting during the STICCon and to be published on STIC's bimonthly fanzine.
Status: In progress.
Expire date: STICCon ‘99
So far, we received the followings:
® "On behalf of unification between Vulcan and Romulus" by Alberto "Salkar" Piccu.
® "The Perfect Vulcan" by Silvana "T'Var" Varlec
® "The daily meditation" by Silvana "T'Var" Varlec
® "The Katra, a materialistic theory" by Enrico "Serik" Ciulla.
® "Helping Tools for daily meditation" by Marco "Sabich" Vittorini.
Even though the existence of five titles out of six, some months before the expire date, might suggest that we are ahead of time, we strongly recommend to do not cherish that illusion. Not only one is wanting, but five articles out of six or even six out of six do not represent a good choice, but no choice at all. Although all these works are of very good quality, we would like to choose the best among the very good.
Other projects
Linguistic Commission
Trustee: Senator Silvana "T'Var" Varlec
The Head of Linguistic Commission T'Var asks all Academy members to fill and send to her the form attached to this newsletter. All the personal data will be kept confidential. They will help the Commission Head to know the average Academy members' knowledge about linguistics. We recall to you that whoever is willing to contribute or to be kept informed about the Commission work, has to get in touch with T'Var.
Translations service
Trustee: Senator Anna ‘T’Sun’ Perotti
Thanks to Enrico "Serik" Ciulla's providential help, the translation to Italian of the mythical Spockanalia, the first Star Trek fanzine, published in the USA back in 1967, is about to be completed. Next to it Vulcan Encyclopedia translation will follow.
Internet
Trustee: Senator Anna ‘T’Sun’ Perotti
Status: Regularly updated.
Indirizzo: www.senatodellerazze.org/vulcan/ www.areacom.it/html/area/homepage/vulcan/
The Academy web site is now part of the Races Senatus domain, although, some materials are still on the areacom server, because of space problems. Both the addresses get to the same documents, which, for now, we preferred do not duplicate. Thanks to Enrico "Serik" Ciulla's generous contribution, the site was enriched with part of the Vulcan Foundation database, the wonderful Vulcanopedia. It is all in Italian, but it is worth the effort, besides a Star Trek lover understand an other, no matter the language.
The address: www.alphacomm.it/vulcan can still be accessed, but no longer is updated. Alphacomm server seems to be having troubles, maybe not just of technical nature. After the crash they suffered last February, the files were restored, but we never got back FTP access.

Conclusion
Our last issue closed with a recommendation to all Academy members to keep contact with the Academy senatus and consulates to do not miss the occasion to partipate to the Academy activities. Some did it and we are grateful to them. But some seem to be illogically shy or uncertain. We expecially talking about the ones, who, after they gave their names and addresses to one of our representative, as if they were willing to join the Academy, never sent back the submission form, which would have officially made them Academy hearers. We are sending them this issue hoping they did not fill the form because they forgot about it (as weird that might appear for a Vulcan) and because they changed their mind (which wouldn't be Vulcan at all). We want to point out that, otherwise than one might think, the Academy does not requires any entrance exam from applicant hearers. The career which any Academician will manage to accomplish will logically depend upon his/her will to commit him/herself and, of course, on the time he/she will manage to spend on the task, but to enter the Academy it is enough to want it. Your presence is not less important than you work.
Live Long and Prosper
