Canchellor's introduction

As the Academy Canchellor I often have to write introductions, prefaces and explanations for some our publishings. It always is a hard committement, since a Vulcan has no feelings, he can not be proud of his collaborators' fine work; he should not prize them, but just logically point out that their work is higer in quality than what was expected (which was high enough).

My 'pride' for your work quality is partially moderated by its scarseness and by the knowledge that if half of us were producing half of what those few well known people produce, I would risk to be drowned under papers and I would have to face the embarassing need to choose only part of your works, which would be too much to stand even for a Vulcan.

Speaking about the document you are now reading, it is intended to inform you about projects in progress and give you a summary of the completed ones. Expecially for new hearers, who are still trying to find their way thruogh Academy activities or are looking for a tutor, who can lead them.

It should, anyway, turn out to be useful also for the ones who alredy are collaborating. They will find here a guidance to where direct their efforts. Good work.

News

Vulcan meeting

As we notified in the previous issue, a Vulcan meeting took place on October 18, in Rome. On the occasion Silvana 'T'Var' Varlec was officially appointed as Centre Italy Consul. We all wish her good work.

1998 Academy elections

Trustee: Vice-Chancellor Marco ‘Sabich’ Vittorini

Notwithstanding the call we issued to all Accademy members on our previous bullettin, NOBODY presented him/herself as a canditate for any Accademic official role. We logically will take this as a whish to leave things as they are and we thank you for your trust.

Anyway we regretfully have to take notice of Chancellor Andrea "Shand" Cozzolino's resignation from Chief of Linguistic Commission. The Senatus Academicus unanimously decided to appoint in his place Consul Silvana "T'Var" Varlec, who accepted the charge.

New Academy membership cards

Trustee: Vice-Chancellor Marco ‘Sabich’ Vittorini

New Academy membership cards are ready and they will be distributed during the STICCon ’98. To the ones who will not attend, cards will be sent by snail mail. We remind you that 'Researcher" title (along with right to run as a candidate for Commission Chief) is only for the ones who published at least a work, which might be either an article or an art or a story or an essai, on any of Star Trek Italian Club or Vulcan Academy fanzines.

Finished works

"Il Maestro": Vulcan Anthology 1998

Trustee: Vice-Chancellor Marco ‘Sabich’ Vittorini

Sinopsys: Yaerly S.T.I.C. fanzine edited by the Vulcan Academy, sold for charity. About 200 pages of Vulcan stories and arts.

This is still our best job. It contains:

  • "Il Maestro" (The Magister), a Claudia "T’Klau" Caloi's novellette, set somewhere after Star Trek VI;
  • "Il male oscuro" (The Mysterious desease), by Anna "T’Sun" Perotti, a story set during the five years mission;
  • "La forza della vita" (The Force Of Life), by Claudia "T’Klau" Caloi, set on Vulcan during Spock's fal-tor-pan;
  • "Dal passato" (Out Of Past), by Macedon, a good friend of us, set on Voyager;
  • "Al sorgere di T’Khut" (T'Khut Rising), by Macedon, a sequel of Out Of Past;
  • Cover art by Giovanni Cosentino;
  • Internal arts by Gabriele "Gavnik" Moschini.

We whish to thank all the athors and artists, who made it possible.

Articles for RS, 1998

Trustee: Chancellor Andrea ‘Shand’ Cozzolino

Sinopsys: 6 articles to be presented at the Races Senatus meeting during the STICCon and to be published on STIC's bimonthly fanzine.

A casually ordered list follows:

  • "Vulcan ethics" by Anna "T’Sun" Perotti;
  • "About the Kash-wan" by Luciana "T’Lu" Falco Aru, presenting her first work. She is now a Researcher;
  • "Those ... embarrassing Vulcans" by Mariapia "Mir" Narducci;
  • "Against Unification" by Silvana "T’Var" Varlec;
  • "Vulcans and Arts" by Silvana "T’Var" Varlec;
  • "Surak and personality cult" by "Silvana "T’Var" Varlec.

Again we thank the athors, expeccially new appointeed Consul T'Var for her great contribution.

Academy publishings

We believe you all will enjoy a list of all works, published on STIC's fanzines, signed by current Academy staff members. It might prove useful to those who whish to write and want to know what has been alredy done.

Works in progress

Now we will talk about what we are willing to accomplish in the next season.

"La figlia delle stelle" (tentative title): Vulcan Anthology, 1999

Trustee: Vice-Rettore Marco ‘Sabich’ Vittorini

Sinopsys: Yaerly S.T.I.C. fanzine edited by the Vulcan Academy, sold for charity. A collection of Vulcan stories and arts.

Status: In progress.

Expire date: July ’99, to be presented at STICCon ’99.

Next year, as we did for the last two, the Academy will present a Vulcan anthology. Presently we are still collectiong material, but we think the main piece will be "La figlia delle stelle" (Daughter Of Stars), a novellette by Claudia "T’Klau" Caloi. It will likely be accompained by Ada Jane "V'Muse" Ward's "The Visionair", Macedon's "Orpheus" and Beth Meenagham's "A Different Perspective".

We need material for 2,000 issue.

Articoli SdR, 1999

Trustee: Chancellor Andrea ‘Shand’ Cozzolino

Sinopsys: 6 articles to be presnted at the Races Senatus meeting during STICCon99 and to be published on STIC bimonthly fanzine.

Status: In progress.

Expiring date: STICCon ‘99

This is the most difficult task we have to face. To meet the expiring date, which can not be postponed, and to find new things to write with so little new material to work on is a very hard jobd to do.

Neverthless, in the last two years we succeded in accomplishing the task.. We believe this is the better way to make STIC members know the Vulcan and the Academy.

So, we are trying to keep up with the commitement again. For that, we need all your help.

Other projects

T’Khasi Journal, first issue

Trustee: Ambssadress Mariapia ‘Mir’ Narducci

Sinopsys: S.T.I.C. fanzine edited by Vulcan Academy. Based on articles about customs and tecnologies.

Status: In progress.

T’Khasi Journal is an ambitious project, intended to create a magazine where essais, which can not be used on the IST, because of their lenght and complexity, can find a proper place.

It will offer a chance to those who have something interesting to say. There is no need to be Vulcan nor to write about Vulcan to participate.

In conclusion

A last word before leaving: "Initiative".

Do not think that we are interest only in great artists and scientists. Vulcan society has grown over team work, using every individual talents, which make everyone diffrerent from any other.

Do not you believe I.D.I.C. means this too?

Unfortunately to attain this goal it is necessary that each one of you come forward insistently. None of us in the Senatus Academicus can spend so much time calling all of you to ask what you would like to do, even we really would be glad if were able to. Thus if you really want to be part of the Academy make it impossible for to do not remember you.

Live Long and Prosper
