Subject: Work in progress status and notes for an argument
Title: Academy Newsletter 01/01
Authors: Salvatore Carboni, Anna Perotti
Last update: stardate 0107.22
Introduction
Dear Academicians:
on time (more or less!) as every semester here we are to inform you about Vulcan Academy activities and work in progress.
The satisfactory amount of writings (both fiction and essays) collected during last months allowed us to complete our latest LOG with a rich variety of undoubted value. The remaining material is almost sufficient to make another one, which will come to life sooner than expected. The finished LOG was put in PDF format and sent to the Publishing Department to be printed, which we hope will happen in short time.
Unfortunately, the latest STICCON (XV, held in Bellaria between stardates 0105.24 and 0105.27) did not include the usual Vulcan Academy Senate meeting, since I was the only one to attend, being all other Senators otherwise committed. Instead we were able to hold an almost full meeting on stardate 0103.11, on occasion of DeepCon2 in Fiuggi, although the excellence of local food and beverages didn't help concentration on intellectually deep subjects!
Although we Vulcans are very private about our personal matters, I believe our recently appointed Chancellor will appreciate congratulations by me and, I think, all the Academicians for his successful Koon-ut with his bondmate, who, luckily for him, did not chose Kal-if-fee! I wish them both Live Long and Prosper.
Might Surak enlighten you and lead you on the path of knowledge.

Vulcan Academy Log 2001
The Vulcan LOG # 6 has been completed and sent to STIC Publishing Department to be printed. Here the selected writings list:

Internal arts by Gabriele Moschini, Zaquia Taruntassa e Andrea Solmi, who also made the cover of which you can see here a thumbnail.
Work In Progress
Articles for RS, 2001
Trustee: Chancellor Marco ‘Sabich’ Vittorini
So far, the Races Senate has the following essays still unpublished:
- "Those ... embarrassing Vulcans" by Mariapia "Mir" Narducci;
- "Pro Unification Between Vulcan and Romulus" by Alberto "Salkar" Piccu;
- "Air Conditioning In Vulcan Architecture" by Umberto "Skeltar" Cesaro;
- "Katra, a materialistic theory" by Enrico "Serik" Ciulla;
- "About The So Called Vulcan Matriarchy" by Salvatore "Sooran" Carboni;
- "Vulcan Law" by Salvatore "Sooran" Carboni.
The Races Senate's Column in the renewed Inside Star Trek Magazine seems to be back to regular. "Those ... embarrassing Vulcans " is scheduled for ISTM 96, closed on July, 20 and you might already hold it in your hands, when this bulletin will reach you. With the IST becoming part of STAR TREK MAGAZINE, which must respect its out schedule, and RS willing to be always present in it, it is logical to expect our authors' long wait to be over. While it fill us with logical satisfaction, it also suggests to think about what are we going to contribute with the next year.
Log Accademia Vulcaniana n. 7
Trustee: Prism Commision Head Anna "T'Sun" Perotti Synopsis: Yearly S.T.I.C. fanzine edited by the Vulcan Academy and sold for charity. It includes stories about Vulcan and Vulcans, articles, arts, poetry. Status: In progress Deadline: We are considering to publish it in the current year. It should not, anyway, go past STICCON XVI
Besides the above said writings, we presently have in stock the followings:
- "Il segreto millenario" ("The Millenary Secret") by Andrea "Solmak" Solmi, a novelette, with known and not known characters endeavoring to solve a mystery deeply rooted in Vulcan ancient past. The story is still in progress, but it appears very promising;
- "Vulcan Sexuality" by Salvatore "Sooran" Carboni - a deep and accurate essays about one of the most burning, but absolutely interesting subjects about Vulcan culture and biology;
- "Vulcan view about metaphysics", by Anna Perugini, a very interesting essay written in plain and easy to understand language;
- "Il silenzio del sehlat" ("The Silence Of The Sehlat") by Antonio "Yuq Wa'Dich" Mercurio (an author external to the Academy); the story takes inspiration by a "The Silence Of The Lambs" by T. Harris. It is the tale of a young Romulan "Erein" (cadet) of Tal Shiar, dealing with a mad Vulcan criminal, restrained on Romulus for scientific searching purpose;
- "La scalata – Escape", by Giuseppe "Saduk" Ruiu, an interesting short story about the climbing of steep cliff by a well known child of our world ... and a deep view inside his most secret mind;
- "A Hellgard e ritorno", ("To Hellgard And Back") by Linda McInnis: the disquieting tale of Saavik's childhood and her first meeting with her mentor;
- "Il segreto nell’anima", ("The Secret Of The Soul") by Gianluca Masiero: a deep view inside a female Vulcan mind.
As usual we are inviting all academicians and Academy friends to contribute. Any contribution will be appreciated and carefully evalued.
Other Projects
Vulcanmecum
Trustee: Preside Salvatore 'Sooran' Carboni
It has been suggested to collect all the available official information about Vulcan and Vulcans and put them in a booklet to put at our affiliates' disposal, especially the youngest ones.
The Bibliografic Commission is working on it. It might be completed at the end of summer.
Published articles collection
Trustee: to be appointed
It has been suggested to collect all the articles so fat published by Vulcan Academy on Inside Star Trek and other likewise fanzines in a single volume, which would be an useful source of reference to us all. Here is a simple task for a young Academician willing to help.
Sehlat scientific card
Trustee: To be appointed
It has been suggested to make a scientific card about the sehlat. It must illustrate the animal's anatomy and habits that can be deduced from the few official information available.
Internet
Trustee: Senator Anna ‘T’Sun’ Perotti Status: Regularly updated Addresses: www.areacom.it/html/area/homepage/vulcan/index.html
www.ponilla.org/Vulcan
Alphacomm server, that hosted one of our mirrors for free for a long time and performed a high quality service which is rare to be found even for a price, has unfortunately shut down. Thus the address www.alphacomm.it/Vulcan is no longer working, a new URL, www.ponilla.org/Vulcan, has been activated and it can be also reached from the site of Senato delle Razze, www.senatodellerazze.org.
Mailing List
Maybe few people know, but there is a mailing list open to all Academicians and whoever might be interested in discussions about Vulcan subjects. Its main language is Italian. Occasional posts in English might find somebody able and willing to answer. The address to apply for subscription is:

Conclusion
The Summer on Earth is the best period for Vulcans to attend their creative work. Not only it is time of vacation from living jobs, but it also offers the most suitable climate. Many of us are going to retire in our summer places to make good use of the time on our hands.
Might logic inspire your lives.
