1959 - LOCK UP: Morality and The Shield

Herbert L. Maris: Macdonald Carey
Frank Crotty: James Drury
Nino Baselice: Leonard Nimoy

Frank's "friends" are playing cards in front of the house he lives in. One of them, Nino, the leader of the gang, is obviously waiting for him coming from work as a policeman. Frank tells him that he quickly has to change and go for his lectures for he's studying law. As he comes out again, Nino asks him for money saying he needs the money to get a suit back from the dry cleaner in order to apply for a job tomorrow. Frank hesitates and gives him some money. Now he has to walk to the university because he hasn't got any money for the bus any more. To thank him, Nino gives him a hug. Later on he reveals to his pals: "He's clean, the revolver must be inside".

As soon as Frank is out of sight the young men force their way into Frank's room and steal the pistol. During the robbery the do at night, Nino shoots the guard - with Frank's gun. Defense lawyer Herbert L. Maris cares for people feeling unjustly accused. So does Frank Crotty as he is accused of murder of a guard. The lawyer tries to find out how the gun used for the murder of the guard could have been used by others - and comes across the three "friends" of Frank's. Nino's two friends become frightened and he has to "convince" them to keep quiet. But the lawyer seems to find out more and more about them. Nino too feels under pressure now. Maris who was warned by his colleges not to go into this kind of environment alone, arrives and enters the room where the three friends live.

He confronts Nino who's in the room with one of his pals and tells him that he knows the crime was committed by three young people. As Nino states that they are only two, the third enters. Nino panics and decides to kill the lawyer. The moment he pulls his knife on Maris, police who have followed Maris, enter and arrest the three of them.
