1963 – GUNSMOKE: I Call Him Wonder

Matt Dillon: James Arness

Holt: Leonard Nimoy

On his way to Dodge city a cowboy finds an Indian settlement totally devastated and most of it’s inhabitants killed. Only one survivor: A small boy. On any question the cowboy asks him, he gets the same answer: "Wonder". When he asks for his parents the boy looks at a destroyed tent and at dead bodies. The cowboy decides to take the boy with him, giving him food and water. As he rides into the city, they meet prejudice and hostility. He calls the boy "Wonder" because this is the only word the boy keeps saying.

A group of other cowboys give them a hard time, trying to take his money and making fun of them. The leader of the group claims that he has lost his money in the card game they played. One of them, Holt, states that he did not loose, but is silenced by the group leader telling him that if he says he’s lost, he has lost, no matter what really happened. In spite of all odds, he decides to go on caring for the boy and learns that "Wanda" means: "Help!"
