Hank Miller comes to town to fetch his horse. When he hears that
Cale did not come back with it this noon, he makes Dillon go after
Kale thinking that Kale has stolen it. From Chester Dillon learns
that Kale has been riding extremely fast – away from town.
Dillon finds the horse but no sign of Cale. A storm is coming up
and Dillon suspects Kale to be in danger. Leaving the horse at a
friend's place, Dillon searches for Kale and finds him: Motionless
after he had fallen from the horse which had backed off frightened
by a rattlesnake. He only can move his upper part of the body.

The storm becomes harder and now Dillon's horse escapes in fear
of the thunder.
When the storm is over Dillon leaves to search for a horse which
helps him get his friend to safety. No luck at a farm, but he gets
to know where there is another farm: 2 miles away. On his way he
encounters 3 cowboys who remind him that he once had driven them
out of town.
Arnie:
"Without his gun he ain't nothing at all."
They do not succeed in beating him up, even when one is trying to
hold him. Now Arnie gets beaten and draws his revolver but is
called back.
No one wants to be hanged for shooting a Marshall.
Arnie tells Dillon: "Don't say we did not help you, Marshall, we
didn't kill you!"
By chance Dillon finds his horse and fights the man who rather would
like to keep it for himself. Now Dillon makes it back to Cale and finds
him exhausted. He brings him back to town so that Cale gets medical
treatment. He is healed.
Cale said he was on a way far out of town, but would have been back.
Hank believes him and knows he would like to own the horse. When Hank
suggests he can buy the horse, Cale offers to work for him.
