Ruthlessly and recklessly a gang of four men roam the area. Under the lead of Toke Shaw, they kill unarmed men, plunder and destroy. One of their friends, Jimmy Blaine, was imprisoned, but broke out only some time before his sentence was finished. Being a friend of the couple, the captain of the 26 Men visits Virginia, Jimmy's wife, who's out on a farm alone. He intends to take her along because of the gang. They have killed a farmer near by and he has reason to believe they'll pass by at Johnny's house bringing Virginia in jeopardy.

She agrees to come along the next day, after she'll get some things in order at the farm. While fetching water from a well she sees the four men riding in the direction of her house. She makes it into the house and locks the door. Appealing on their friendship, Toke tries to talk their way into the house after they have tried to open the door by force. Inside the house, Virginia has her gun ready and allows them to come in and take some food, after Toke has promised to ride on afterwards without delay. Three head for the table with the food, the fourth overwhelms Virginia and takes the gun. Toke tells her she should not have believed them so easily and is angry about her resistance. "You are so pretty, but you won't be pretty any more," he says and hits her hard.

You won't stay this pretty any longer

One of the men does not agree that Toke mistreats the Lady. Toke does not like to be questioned and makes sure this will not happen again: He shoots him. While the fourth tries to grab her, she manages to escape into the next room and locks herself in. The three take what they think is worth to take and leave. The next morning the captain comes to fetch Virginia. He finds her in her bedroom, still shaken by what has happened. Jimmy also arrives and sees her and the marks from the beating.

He and another man join with the captain in pursuing the three men. They are resting in the mountains. Toke suggest to head for Texas because there is "lots of money," but his brother does not agree. Toke solves this problem by knocking him down. After they have finished their meal on top of a mountain, Toke sees the three men coming from far. They take their guns and as soon as they approached the hill, they begin to shoot at them. Taking cover, the three are unharmed and split up. Jimmy comes from behind and catches and kills the third of the group who had tried to approach them from behind. While Toke and Ed get closer to the rim to watch out for the pursuers Jimmy aims at them from their back. They turn around and Toke tries to talk with him reminding him of their friendship. The moment Jimmy lowers his gun, Toke gives the command to shoot, but Jimmy s quicker. Both die. At home Jimmy voluntarily goes with the sheriff and promises Virginia to be back after finishing his time in jail.
