Stardate 4385.3
On the border of the Melkotian area the
Enterprise ignores a warning buoy.
After facing a Melkotian image at their screen
Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty and Chekov beam down at the planet and encounter
Doc Holiday, Wyatt Earp, Virgil Earp and Morgan Earp. All set in front of facades
of buildings resembling the wooden houses in America at the time of early settlements.
While everybody seems to be at home, the crew is clearly seen as the Clanton brothers.
When they ask about their appearance they get confirmed that they never looked any
different. To add to the inconvenience the crew cannot leave the area.
A power force
around the village prevents any proceedings.
All tries of normal conversations seem useless; they are not only seen as the
Clantons, who are involved in the famous O. K. Corral gun fight (where only Billy
Clanton survived), but they frequently run into trouble with the Earps. To bring
the hostilities to an end the time for the shoot-out is set. Again they try to
leave the place, but wherever they try to go, they finf themselves at the O. K. Corral.
In the short time left all work on solutions, like a special mixture to render the
other party unconscious.
One of the ladies working in the saloon becomes the Chekov's (alias Billy
Clanton's)
friend.
In a struggle, Chekow gets shot and killed.
Realizing that he was the only survivor of the gun fight, Spock is sure that
nothing is real in this place- only what they believe to be true.
It proves right
because the mixture which is supposed to be strong enough to put a person to sleep
for a long time has no effect at all. Spock explains that Chekov wasn't killed
by the bullet, but by his believing it to be lethal.

Suddenly they find themselves
in the Corral, while the Earps and Doc Holliday are approaching – ready to kill them.
Applying the Vulcan Mind-Meld on Kirk, Scott and McCoy, Spock prepares each
of his friends for the situation.
All is seen to be unreal and cannot harm them.
As the others open fire, the bullets indeed do not do any harm. Finally, fist fights
follow. As Kirk is in the position to kill one of them, he does not – by this proving
the peaceful intentions of the people of the Federation to the Melkotians. They had
taken the scenes out of Kirk's fantasy and had exposed all of the landing party to
the setting. Believing the Federation is a non – aggressive Federation, the Melkotians
plan to establish a diplomatic relationship with them.
