Stardate 1704.2
The Enterprise gets a message from the
scientists on Psi 2000: The planet is due to be destroyed and they themselves
are ready to be evacuated.
As the Enterprise arrives and the crew want to beam them up, they discover
that all have frozen to death because the life supporting system has been
switched off, but all are found to be frozen in an unusual position Spock
and Lt. Tormolen report after they beamed down in protective suits to investigate.
Lt Tormolen infects himself after he had removed his glove and brings a contagious
disease on board: More and more people behave strange, overreact or live their
dreams in reality.
Lt. Sulu fights the crew with his sword, Lt. Riley locks himself
into the engine room and switches off the engines, Sister Chapel confesses her
love towards Spock : "I love the Vulcan and the Human" and Spock suffers from
the fact that he never could tell his mother what he felt for her:
"My
mother;
I could never tell her I loved her. An Earth – woman living on a planet where
love, emotion, is bad taste. ... Jim, when I feel friendship for you I feel
ashamed. I’ve spent my whole life learning to hide my feelings."
Even Spock and
Kirk engage in a fight. Spock tries to escape the others by locking himself into his room.
The only thing which gets Spock back to normal is when he sees his
friend caught up in confusion. This sight of the captain in distress causes Spock
to fight the virus.
... and all the time the ship is spinning around getting closer and closer to the planet.
The only escape is a jump back in time ...
