Stardate 3468.1
Area of Pollux IV. The Enterprise is
suddenly held by a force of energy in the shape of a huge green hand. Apollo
introduces himself as the last survivor of a group of space travelers who had
been on earth, too. At that time they had lived on Mount Olympus. He informs
the crew of the Enterprise that they will now be his children and spend their
time on the planet worshipping him.
Kirk, Scotty, Chekow and Lt. Palamas are brought down and face a huge person in
ancient Greek clothing demanding to be worshipped. Scotty is attracted to Lt.
Carolyn Palamas and intervenes when he sees Apollo's attention to her.
Apollo
throws him backwards with a thunderbolt out of his hand.
Though feeling sorry for Scotty, Lt. Palamas is impressed by Apollo's abilities.
Kirk orders her to reject him. After they find out that the temple is the source
of his power, they mock him and cause him to use his powers, while the Enterprise
fires at the source. Kirk makes it clear to Apollo that it is not enough for them
to worship a person with special powers; they need challenge in their lives.
Apollo looses his power and, disillusioned, he decides to join the others who
have given up their physical existence long ago.
