EEPR agents are operating in the United States.
Their names are known by Alexander Vanin. Just before he is arrested he cannot even
reveal the names to his superior, Mishenko, because then he would be useless to his
own government. The only way out is self-hypnosis. That way he would only be able to
remember where the list is when his wife is present and tells him a sequence of numbers
he told her to memorize.
Vanin is imprisoned. Soon EEPR agents Jim and Doug tell him that he is going
to be exchanged for an American.
Olga gets a visitor: security chief
Lasko (Paris),
who fetches her. He tells her that her things are packed and she is going to see her
husband in the USA. Just a few seconds after they left, the secretary in her
office gets the answer from the government about Lasko: He is not known there.
The secretary hurries to stop Mrs. Vanin and follows the Lady wearing a white fur
hat. As he reaches "her", Dana turns around.
In the EEPR consulate Barney has put in a bomb - and is discovered. The
building is evacuated immediately and a guard stays with Barney to make sure
that the
Cuban is stopping the bomb, since it cannot be removed. Barney works hard trying to stop
it in time ...
In the limousine the radio is on. By chance Paris and Olga Vanin overhear
the news informing about Mr. Vanin, who is suspected to have given the names of the
list to the USA. Olga is sure: He could not possibly have done it.
Outside the consulate Mishenko is monitoring the situation. If the bomb
cannot be stopped, they must get out before it blows. The IMF has put Willy in charge of the
operation outside. He manipulates the robots and orders the trucks drivers.
When Paris and Olga arrive and enter the consulate or when Vanin comes, a truck parks
to block Mishenko's view.
A big group of IMFers have entered the consulate. They are guests of a party
- all from EEPR to celebrate their country anniversary. There Mr. and Mrs. Vanin are
united again. They even got the chance to talk privately.
A chair fell while there was music and dancing. It hit the loudspeaker.
Down in the cellar the guard suddenly hears music and voices from above, in the
deserted building. He leaves Barney to look what is going on – and is "removed"
by Doug.
All IMFers leave the building and Paris goes down to be with Barney
because time is running out.
He stays with him while the bomb display shows the
last remaining second ... Mishenko phones in to ask how it is going on and why
the guard had not answered for some time. I the guard's voice Paris comforts him - they'll make it –
Barney achieves it in the last second.
Mishenko wonders ... he's got no contact any more. He hurries to enter the
consulate, finds a deserted room with leftovers from the celebration and the Vanins
who are as astonished to find everything deserted as Mishenko is.
Now Mishenko
is sure: Vanin has told where the list is. But Vanin can prove the opposite: He
explains that self hypnosis would have made it impossible. To prove it for sure,
he asks his wife to tell the numbers he's told her. Hearing the numbers, his memory
comes back: The numbers are the numbers of a coach where the list is under one of
the seats.
Mishenko is aware that the place surely is bugged and hurries to get
to the bus – in the bus the IMF is waiting (they have listened to the conversation
in their van) to arrest Vanin again.
