Paris is detected by a former victim of the IMF, Karl Maur, while he is touring Switzerland and later trapped. As he is going down serpentines in the mountains by motorbike, he is shot with a drug and taken into custody with medical treatment and brainwashing involved. To take revenge and to eliminate the leader of the IMF, the group, Maur and Bandar, has Dr. Tabor install an implant into Paris' brain to control him. Not before they drugged him and found out: His father has driven away Paris' mother when Paris was still a young boy.  The magician, Meerghan, whom he learned to work with, shot his assistant, a young woman whom Paris was in love with - that way Paris has experienced twice the loss of women he loved. And they find out that Paris has a strong aversion of murder and a compassion for women in despair. Now they create a case involving Enid Brugge. After Paris is "back to normal" and checked medically by Doug and declared o. k., Paris is still afraid to be out of the team, until they really find out what happened to him. Meanwhile Barney finds traces of Maur at the scene where Paris' light of the motorbike was found. They know: Paris has been abducted.

They inform Paris and advise him to take a break - leaving him wondering whether he ever will be back fully in a team he loves to work for. In a hotel Enid and Paris meet. She is looking sad and attracts Paris' interest.

Barney finds the place Paris was kept, and he finds a dog having an implant and reacting to sounds which make him act violently. Working for Tabor and Maur, Enid tells heartbreaking stories and later poses as a victim who is to be shot. Paris seems to fall in love with her and they spend much time together.

Under the influence of the controlling device implanted in his head, Paris begins to see Jim Phelps as a rival, trying to take the woman for himself. Tabor's and Maur's plan is to stage Enid's murder and lead Paris to think that she was killed by Jim. But when they come to turn the plan into action, they suddenly alter it and actually shot the woman. Now Paris, who frequently saw Enid as the magician's assistant he loved and Jim as Meerghan, knows for sure that Jim has shot Enid.

The device in his head gives him pain and makes him go after Jim to kill him. Again, Paris' aversion to murder succeeds and they end up struggling. In this moment Bandar and Tabor approach to kill both. They admit that they have underestimated both and try to shoot Jim, glad to have found the man in lead of the IMF. Paris wounds Bandar even under control of the implant showing his loyalty to Jim.

The implant is removed and Paris is glad to be back with the team. As Barney asks him how he feels, he says: "As if something has been removed from my head"
