Lou Merrick is in possession of blackmailing evidence which is handy for the Syndicate to use against government officials. He intends to hand it over to them but so far it is kept safe by his boss, the syndicate chief, Jonas Stone. He’s getting older and plans to make Merrick his successor. Merrick and the files are to be destroyed. The IMF uses drug to make Stone collapse. He needs hospital treatment and the doctor there is Jim. Willy and Galvin (both IMF) make Merrick believe that they are having great deal about drugs with Stone, raising Merrick’s suspicion against Stone because he did not know about it. When Merrick enters the room where Stone is in, he finds Stone unconscious and the doctor experimenting with a machine on him. 

The wires from Stone transmit "brainwaves" and a truck driver for a dry cleaner, Lester Perkins (Paris) , a family father and being able to provide a medium to read the thoughts of the person he’s connected with, happily shares Stone's thoughts. Merrick is convinced since the IMF is using a lot of information he thinks to be secret. Paris then talks about a 10 million dollar deal with Galvin and Willy. Merrick wants to be part of it. He uses Paris who's still under the influence of Stone's thoughts to get to Stone' safe. It is a hard time for Barney to crack the code behind a fake wall and he has to give Paris a little electric shock to buy time as Paris touches the safe. 

When Paris pretends to have concentration problems Merrick urges him recklessly to go on. This time the safe opens easily convincing Merrick even more that Paris indeed got Stone’s thoughts in his mind. Merrick pays Galvin 1 million dollars to make sure, he too is in the deal. Without any caring about the man Merricks orders a hit man to kill Paris. The IMF prevents this. In the hospital the doctor informs Stone that Merrick has caused the unnecessary stay in hospital. Stone rushes into the office finding Merrick and an empty safe. The money and the files gone. The IMF's order to destroy Merrick is finished by Stone.
