Barney's brother, a newspaper reporter, was
murdered while he was trying to find out about the connections between the captain
of police, Captain Abbott, and George Corley, head of a gang in a ghetto mob, which
works under the cover of an insurance company.
Corley secures his life and business very well and it is hard to gain access to him
and his "work".
It is possible through Millie, his
secretary. A (IMF) mugger tries to steal her bag and Barney gets it back for her.
So Barney gains her trust.
Corley investigates about Barney and finds out that he was once a crooked accountant
– and hires him. Barney is to assist W. Goslin, with whom he finds $ 10.000
(planted by Willy). This throws a bad light on Goslin in the eyes of Corley.
Meanwhile Paris and Dana hold a session with Corley who is
convinced that his late wife is talking to him, wanting to warn him of oncoming danger.
An attempt to take Corley's life (triggered by the IMF) is hindered by Barney and
Barney is more and more accepted by the time.
The IMF finds incriminating evidence
against both and when they threaten to bring Corley into Abbot's district,
tensions are high. Corley knows for sure, he'd be killed there. To save his life,
Corley is convinced to present evidence against Abbott and even himself to the
district attorney.
Millie, who has fallen in love with Barney, breakes down when she hears Barney's
confession about the real aims of the force and hates him for what he did to her.
