As written in Numbers 29:1 the
beginning of Tishrei is celebrated as Rosh Hashanah (the head, the beginning of
the year). It is a time of introspection. The focus is on change and self
improvement. Like during Yom Kippur community is essential for Rosh Hashanah,
too. Every service of Rosh Hashanah contains piyyutim (carefully crafted
liturgical poems).
This DVD consists of
introductions to songs and background information about the contents of the
songs. The beginning, sometimes a summary and sometimes the whole song is read
by Leonard in English, sometimes partly in Hebrew as well.
Zochreinu:
Remember us unto life, O King who delightest in life,
and inscribe us in the Book of Life,
so that we may live worthily for Thy sake O God of life.
The DVD is dedicated to
the memory of Esther Gologor.
