In Search Of... Season 4 # 06, The Lost Colony
of Roanoke

116 people landed on an island north of the coast of South Carolina. They
established a foothold long before
the Jamestown
colony was founded in Virginia. The remains of the colony is still a
mystery. Is it possible that the people, the animals and the buildings
disappeared without a trace? Sir Walter Raleigh got the approval of the
Queen to establish a colony in America. Virginia Dare was the first English
child being born in America. Her grandfather, Sir Walter Raleigh, returned
to England to ask for more supplies – in vain. All ships were needed to
fight the Spanish fleet. This is why he only returned 3 years later on
Governor White’s ship – to find the island empty. They might have survived
and mingled with friendly Indians. That might explain the fact that some
Indians have got blue eyes.
By a tourist a stone was found saying that Virginia has died. Another stone
was found stating that another 16 people have died.
