In Search Of... Season 2 # 8, The Ogopogo Monster

In July 1977 Erin was waterskiing and took a dive. Unusually for her as an experienced water-skier she began to cry and the boat turned back. She's had a face-to-face encounter with a giant sea-serpent. And she wasn't the only person who had.  In British Columbia Lake Okenhagen is reported to be the home of a giant water-creature similar to the one in Loch Ness. Both lakes are alike, long and at the same latitude having areas of great depth. They have similar temperature and contain almost identical types of fish.

The Okenhagen Indians have lived along the shores of the lake for centuries, long before the white man came. From generation to generation facts are passed on about the giant serpent in the lake.

Mary Moon is the author of "The Ogopogo Monster" inquired about the "snake in the lake". All the stories she heard in this vast area hung together and were told with great sincerity. "The snake looked huge and the bone structure of the head was outstanding," a couple having seen it reports.

The Fletchers shot about 50 pictures of Ogopogo and have seen it 40 or 50 times because their boat makes sounds which are attractive to sea-life.

The ISO-team (with Barry Haron, an expert underwater photographer) go filming underwater without any trace of Ogopogo. After inviting local people the group was astonished about the big number of people telling them about sights they personally have had with "a 50 or 60 feet long creature of the most beautiful green you have ever seen". Arlene Gowl owns the only motion picture footage of Ogopogo. ISO-enlargements of the film show that it indeed is an object in the water moving with high speed.
