In Search Of... Season 1 # 19, LIFE AFTER DEATH
Code Blue
alerts a special team of doctors and nurses when a patient has died. A
resuscitation attempt will be made. If it is successful a patient is brought
back to life. In some cases they have amazing stories to tell about what it
is like on the other side.
The medical definition of death has been challenged by
the advance of science. People who have technically crossed the line between
life and death give accounts which are remarkably similar. And the
experience does not seem to be an unpleasant one at all.
Someone says: "I lost control of my car in a curve and I
remember thinking: 'This is the end'. I felt like I was tumbling through a
long tunnel. And then, suddenly, I found myself flowing over the scene of
the accident. Another account says: "I was overcome by the feeling of utter
peace and tranquillity."
Another person reports: "I felt exhilarated and started moving upward in the
tunnel. In the end of the tunnel there was that light which was so bright.
And then I saw him, about a hundred or a hundred and fifty feet ahead of me
– a figure that I knew to be God."
Another statement: "I was a scientific person; I thoroughly disbelieved in
anything that was psychic. A was an atheist, very pragmatic. And here I
experienced something that was impossible. My consciousness was on the top
of the room. I could see all the students watching the op very clearly… I
believe now, very strongly, that there is a life after that."
