In Search Of... Season 6 # 1, Jesse James
No one of the outlaws during the
civil war in America earned more fame than Jesse James, the 'Robin Hood'
amongst
them.
Most historians maintain that Jesse was killed 6 years after his doomed
Northfield - Minnesota raid. Yet, in 1948, J. Frank Dalton claimed that he
was Jesse James. Is it possible that Jesse James could have perpetrated a
hoax on the entire country for over 60 years?
The gang (Frank, Jesse James and
7 followers) never held up private people or store owners. They concentrated
on bank and railway money. This might be the reason why they were never
caught for 16 years. After a bank-robbery attempt in Northfield four
of the gang members were shot, the others wounded, James and Jesse escaped.
Bounty hunters pursued them for the always increasing reward. The protection
of the people ceased.
Then two Ford brothers claimed
that one of them has shot Jesse James in his home. No one could ever prove
whether it was Jesse James or whether it has been done for his protection.
