In Search Of... Season 2 # 15, IMMORTALITY
Each of us must at some time confront the grim
reality of growing old. With every passing year the visible signs of wear
and decline become more and more apparent.
In 1919 a rejuvenating treatment was
introduced by a Russian born surgeon named Sir Serge Woranow. He used sex
organs of chimpanzees and claimed amazing results until the patients became
infected with syphilis from the chimpanzees.
At a Spa in the Bahamas bathes, massages,
inhaling and cell therapy is used to revitalize cells. Cell therapy means
means that lamb cells are injected into the body for revitalization.
"We can't make anybody younger, but we can make them function and look
younger."
Tests were done with rats: Simply by
cutting down the calories in their diet the lifespan of rats have been
doubled.
There are theories that aging is rather a
self-destructive process than a wearing off.
Cells only can divide about 50 times before
they wear out and die.
Families have arranged to place relatives
into cryonic suspension after their death at a temperature of minus 320
degrees Fahrenheit hoping that some day in the future techniques will be
known how to re-vitalize them.
