IN SEARCH Of... Season 2 # 17, HYPNOSIS

Hypnosis – a word for centuries connected with charlatans evil magic, stage shows, today doctors, scientists and police and others find this method an increasing important tool. Hypnosis gives us new insights into ourselves. It is a shortcut into the illusive area we call a subconscious mind. Dr. William Crocker has pioneered the work on the subconscious mind. He believes that the key to a hypnotic state is the misdirection of attention.

No difference in brain activity can be measured whether a person is under hypnosis or not. A volunteer person is pierced under hypnosis. He is told to control his hand to be cold. Neither on the side where the needle went in nor where it came out – no blood appears. When he is told to make his hand warm, a single drop of blood appears.

A cancer patient, Marc, found himself under a waterfall during hypnosis. He felt his chest being cleaned. After the treatment his cancer was gone and he felt more confident, accomplishing things he had not been able to do before, feeling more confident as he was before. A shot police officer was able to recall the person who shot him whom he could not picture before with the help of hypnosis.

A woman allergic to any anesthetics could not be operated on her breast. Under hypnosis the operation was successful.
