In Search Of... Season 2 # 7, HURRICANES
From space a full grown
hurricane appears as a giant pinwheel of swirling clouds. On Earth they are the
most violent of all storms. Centuries ago peoples from the Caribbean worshiped a
powerful sky-god they called "Hoorukan".

The warm sea creates bowls of air
and then pillow up thousands of feet. The clouds gather together, the earth's
rotation makes them spin: A hurricane is born. Hurricane hunters fly directly
into the storm. In the eye the instruments take measurements. After several
devastating experiences with hurricanes warning systems and hurricane research
centers are in constant alert.
Examples of people killed by hurricane: 300,000 people near Calcutta, more than
6,000 people in Texas, nearly half a million people in East Pakistan...
