In Search Of... Season 5 # 15, THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA

It is the longest structure on earth and can be seen from the moon. "In Search Of" is one of the first scientific groups who was allowed to enter the people's republic of China. The great Wall of China rises to great heights and plunges to deep gorges. Some parts are so remote, they are seldom seen by men. From the Pacific Ocean to the Gobi desert all sections are linked. Many peasants who built it froze to death in the severe winters of the northern land. Many died of the harsh treatment of the emperor's guards. Shi Huangdi united China, defeated his enemies, built roads connecting his cities and the Great Wall became an obsession. Uniting China raised his power.
