In Search Of... Season 1 # 16, DRACULA
What is the truth behind the legend famous for
canine teeth and a black cape? Romania, the Carpathian Mountains are home to various stories.
Bram Stoker's story of classic horror has been performed since its invention almost
continuously.
The stories are based on the real deeds of a
prince of darkness whose deed were more shocking than those of the fictional vampire.
Transylvania – Vlad Dracula (during the 15th century) put
to death any priest, who dared to challenge any of the king's
decisions, slowly and painfully. The torturous procedure
favored by the king was so barbarous that his own countrymen named
him Vlad, the impaler – in Romanian: Vlad Tepes.
Dracula (Son of the dragon) soon became more the meaning
"son of the devil". Dracula had grown up in immense
brutal times and died in battle – beheaded (by mistake?) by one of
his own troops. The name remains as a symbol for un-repented evil.
