In Search Of... Season 1 # 15, AMELIA EARHART

Amelia Earhart's courage has captured the hearts and imagination auf the whole world. She has set a new altitude – record, and a new women's transcontinental speed record. "Women must try to do things as men have tried", she said. She has crossed the Atlantic Ocean. The first solo from Hawaii to California.

In 1937 Amelia Earhart and her expert – navigator fled 3/4 around the world. In the vicinity of a small island a ship was waiting to re-fuel her plane. She radioed that the Howland island could not be found. Then the plane vanished. An extensive search missed her, the navigator and the plane by a few miles.  Evidence that she was picked up by a Japanese ship when she had landed on an island near by is stored in Washington.
