1983, August 12th - Good Morning America

Interviewer: David Hartman
with Leonard Nimoy and Bill Shatner

DH:  "........ whether or not Spock is found is a mystery I am told, but Leonard is going to direct the movie and he and William Shatner are joining me from K.A:B.C. in Los Angeles. Morning men.

L & B:  Good morning, David.
L: Good morning, David. Bad timing (laughing). ...
......

DH: Bill, Leonard, Leonard is going to direct this movie, right?
B:  I know, I'm aghast.
L:  ( laughing)
B: No, I mean it's a gas.
L: No, you're an Admiral.
L & B: (laughing)
........

DH: Hoe are you going to treat these guys?
L: With an iron hand.
DH: Uh hu.
L: With an iron hand (laughing)
B: But I've got a velvet glove for him.
L: No, no, no, no, we have no problems. We, Bill and I worked together a lot, obviously, for a long time and we have a very easy read of each other and understanding of each other's needs and objectives, seriously, I'm looking forward to it. I think it's going to work out very well.
................

D: ... id he coming back (referring to Spock)
B: (laughing)
L: The working title of the picture is 'The Search for Spock', David, and I hope we find something because it would be a waste of time really...
B: Gosh ... imagine people paying all that money and not finding anything (Leonard laughing)
L: Well, what we don't really know for sure at this point since we don't start shooting until Monday, eh....
B: Maybe over the weekend we'll discover ....
L: We'll figure out what we'll find. Spock could be pure energy, could have mutated to another form, a lot of possibilities, David. Hopefully....
B: Could be a pretty girl...

..........................

B: ....(about T.J.Hooker)... The instant I'm through with the picture I'll start the last eleven of "T.J.Hooker".
L: I worked with him on 'Hooker', David; it's not that tough.
.........................................

B: .. (about beginning to work on Star Trek soon)..... The transition will be easy. I'll be with old friends and working my piano.
L: Does he sound like an Olympic champion getting ready for the finals?

DH: The man is tuned to a fine edge. It's clear, right, Leonard?
L: Terrific! (pinching Bill's cheek and giving him a pat on the shoulder)
B: (laughing) Don't pinch the cheek, it's liable to come off.
L: Thanks, David.
DH: Great to see you both, thanks a million.
L: Thank you.
