Showmaster
Joachim Fuchsberger welcomes Leonard
Nimoy as a special guest out of
this world. He says he is very honoured to have Leonard Nimoy as a
guest in his show.
First some
problems arise when both try to use their earphones
in order to hear the translation. It does not work. "Throw it away,"
Joachim Fuchsberger says and Leonard pretends to make a throw.
Now Joachim
Fuchsberger translates, but soon the translator's voice is heard over
the loudspeakers.
His
first question concerns Leonard Nimoy's book I Am Not Spock.
Leonard Nimoy explains: "He turns towards people calling him Spock and
understands. But there were a lot of questions
about the difference
between Spock and me... Spock hears better than I do, he hasn't got
any children, I do. He works in a space ship and not in a studio.

Joachim Fuchsbergere: From time
to time it is the same (laughing)
LN: It is the
same from time to time. Mr.Spock doesn't pay any taxes, I
must pay taxes.
JF:
Would you prefer to be Mr. Spock?
LN: IN a
certain way. He is more intelligent than I am. Our humor is also
different.
JF: You have
children. Do they like Mr. Spock?
LN: Very much.
Spock has helped our family, ha s helped me to get a
challenge and a career. They like the role as many other
people do.
JF: In Star
Trek people are more intelligent and less, less..
LN:
Emotional.
JF:
(nodding), yes. How is Leonard Nimoy in real life? I ask this because
you do such a lot that has to do with intelligence. You write books,
you direct, you are an actor, you do such a lot.
LN:
I think probably the best way to answer your question is that he is
more intelligent than I am, he is a scientist...
JF:
That's an understatement.

LN:
No, no that's
true.
Spock is an extraordinary personality, in a very special way. I admire
him. I respect the character, he is dignified.
Spock
inspires a
lot of people in various ways. He inspires the crew of the Enterprise... They sacrifice their careers to help him. And they have reason to
believe that their friend needs help. They refuse to follow orders and
steal the Enterprise to go out and try to help him. They are that loyal
to him.
JF
is now referring to the fame Star Trek has got. He just has seen it in
Australia.
How
many episodes have you done?
LN:
68
JF:
And that was finished in ...
LN:
1968
JF:
1968, yes. And in Star
Trek II Mr. Spock dies. What does happen to him
now?
Leonard summarizes Star
Trek II and introduces Star Trek III. It is a moving
story, and first of all it is a story about loyalties, what they are
willing to do for each other.
JF asks about the chances to see more movies...
LN: Star Trek III
is just out and in the studios they talk about Star Trek IV and V.
I don't know whether all of us can play the characters for so long, but I believe Star Trek will be around.
JF:
I always have been a fan of Mr. Spock, now I am a fan of Leonard Nimoy.
Greetings to your charming wife, I wish you all the best, a never
ending success, Thank you very much for coming.
