Chicago 2004 - April 24th Creation Convention

Leonard came on stage a little after 4PM.

Pretty much at the beginning of his talk, Leonard showed the bloopers of "Star Trek 4". I always have mixed feelings about Leonard showing a video at a con because I want to see HIM not the video. But the bloopers are short and funny so I didn't mind although I had seen them before.

Leonard was in a great mood and answered a lot of questions from the audience. He was extremely nice and open.

Fan: Leonard, you look great for your age. What do you do to stay fit?
LN: (flattered) Thank you very much. I'm happily married in my 2nd marriage for 15 years now. Furthermore I know exactly that I still have 5,872 days to live.

(I'm not quite sure if that's the right number but it's close. I'm sure it was between 5,000 and 6,000) Leonard explained that he got a life insurance and they calculated the exact number of days he still will live based upon his habits and time of death of parents and medical history.

Fan: Leonard, how come that you still have hair since so many of your co-stars are going bald?
Leonard's answer was a good one: I guess it's because my dad was a barber ...

Then a little boy got ready to ask a question. Just when I thought Leonard's talk couldn't get any funnier the boy asked if Leonard could sing "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins".
I guess the little boy was scared because he started crying. Leonard noticed that and - as a good sport - he started singing! Leonard sang a few lines and said some consoling words to the little boy.

At this convention I felt a great warmth and sympathy towards us fans from him.

After his talk the photo session with Leonard was scheduled. He gave all of us the feeling of being welcome. He was very open and nice and tried to give us as much time as possible…

Next up was the autograph session that was a bit of a disappointment because we were rushed through so fast that there was no time for a word or a smile for us fans.

At 8 PM Leonard came back on stage for his "Shekhina" lecture and showed us some of his photographs.

After the lecture he answered questions. It seemed as if only men would ask questions. Leonard remarked on that and added: "I guess women already have all the answers," with a grin. That was when I decided to be brave and to raise my hand so that finally a woman would say something ...

Sitting in the first row had the advantage of being picked right away ...

Ina: Do you plan on publishing another book of photography?
Leonard: Yes that is a possibility but not right now but maybe in a few years.

The day went over too quickly ...
