gathering to watch The Wrath of Khan (ST II) and 10 minutes of the new Star Trek
movie (St 11) experienced a First the scheduled film The Wrath of Khan was played but stopped after the film seemed to blur and break. Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzmann and Damon Lindelof took the stage and asked whether anybody had questions about the new movie, obviously to buy time. While the first question is asked Leonard enters the stage, wearing a cap and a coat. He's caring a film can. The crowd goes enthusiastic. It is impossible to describe the joy and the applause. He removes the cap and the thundering applause goes on. Leonard receives a standing ovation.
"No!" some shout and Leonard laughs again. "So, you're goanna see about 10 minutes of the movie? … Won't you rather see the whole movie?"
The fans go
wild. Total enthusiasm. The whole room is filled with shouts of joy and
happiness. "Let's ask the majority: Who of you would rather see these 10 minutes
of it?" Silence and laughter. "I think it's wrong that Australia should be the
first to see the movie." Great response from the audience. "These guys have pout
together a great movie", Leonard goes on referring to Roberto Orci, Alex
Kurtzmann and Damon Lindelof on stage with him. "And I think it should have it's
opening right here tonight in Austin." Again the fans shout for joy. Leonard
points on the film can and leaves the stage.
After the
movie the thunderous applause does not want to end, only until all take the
stage again. Comments and thoughts are welcome they say, encouraging the fans to
post them. It is said that they are working on the next one. Again: Shouts of
Joy and applause. They thank Leonard again saying that this would not have been
possible without him. "I haven't been into work like this for a long time and
it has been a great, great joy.", Leonard says. "It was a project with very,
very talented people and JJ is in Australia right now and (laughing) still
watching the movie. ["It hasn't even started yet" is said, "Another 45 minutes"]
Leonard laughs again. "Poor people".
"I can't tell you how much it means to all of us. Of course I am reminded of 1965. It means an awful lot to see this kind of product on the screen and your reaction to the screen. (Shouts and applause and Leonard shows that he is moved.) Your coming tonight, your appreciation of the film. I can't leave you without saying it: ‘Live long and prosper!'" Everybody shouts and applauds. It is impossible to find words for this wonderful mood. Fans report that they have cried because they were so happy.
