Interviewer (SV): "Standing opposite
to him is one of those moments in life one never forgets. With 74 years he is –
as he calls himself – the grandfather of Star Trek. He is an impressive and
wise personality, who knows to tell serious as well as entertaining stories.
It was an honor for us to talk to the Vulcan NR. 1."
Q: "What does the character Spock
still mean for you?"
"I still enjoy it. I am still impressed by all those many people I have met and
who were positive about Star Trek and especially that character. Just two days
ago when my wife and I had a walk in NY a man came to me and told me about the
great and good influence Spock had on his life then and now. This still happens
relatively often. My character has touched many people emotionally and
influenced in a positive way, this makes me very glad."
(Playing Spock in Unification ) "...was very
emotional for me. Not only because it was Spock’s last performance – this was not
necessarily evident at the time – but maybe because I could work together with
the old crew and the actors of TNG. It was like meeting another part of the family."
About photography:
"Three years ago I published a book of photography titled 'Shekhina'.
It shows b/w pictures dealing with the topic of Shekhina, which is considered
to be the feminine aspect of God in Jewish Mystery.
The nude pictures in it in combination with religion caused controversy
in public. In spite of that the book got rather good critics. Now I have
put together a collection of photos by the name of 'The Maximum Beauty',
which shows big women. There is an exhibition of it in the Bonni Benrubi
Gallery, New York."
